General
familysearch.org – A vast database of genealogical information with a user-friendly interface. Free to use but requires registration.
Library of Congress: Historic American Newspapers – Search select digitized newspapers published 1789-1949.
Swedish Finn Historical Society – A great place to explore the culture and heritage for those who have Swede-Finn roots.
The Sami Cultural Center of North America – An organization dedicated to education about Sami and Sami-North American history and culture.
Michigan
Michiganology.org (formerly called Seeking Michigan) – A part of the Michigan History Center, this site gives access to more than a million records from the Archives of Michigan and the Library of Michigan, including death certificates and other Michigan documents.
Michigan Tech University Archives – Large collection of local history, including mining records and an online photograph collection.
Keweenaw National Historical Park Archive – Museum and archival collections that focus on telling the story of Michigan’s Copper Country, including mining records, photographs, and artifacts.

Forest Hill Cemetery – Contact information for the sexton of one of the largest cemeteries in Houghton County.
Hancock Cemeteries – Information from the City of Hancock on burials in Lakeside Cemetery & the Old Hancock Protestant Cemetery.
Finland
Institute of Migration emigrant register – Passport records and passenger lists for people who emigrated from Finland. A subscription is required.
HisKi Project – Searchable online database for Finnish church records hosted by the Genealogical Society of Finland.
Suku Forum – An online discussion group open to everyone for asking questions or sharing your own genealogical findings.
Finnish Parish Records – Information on what Finnish Church records are available and how to access them.
Historismi.net – A good resource for decoding common terms and abbreviations found in historical Finnish records.
Finland’s Family History Association – Scans of church and court records. No search function, but useful if you know which record you are looking for (time, location).
Northern Europe U.S. Army AMS Topographic Maps – Maps date from ca. 1940 and show Finnish homesteads.
Genealogical Society of Finland: Old Handwriting Styles – A good resource for deciphering old handwriting often found in historical records.
Minnesota
Finnish Genealogy Group of Minnesota – Resource for finding genealogical information on Finns in Minnesota.
Iron Range Research Center – Library and archival collections focusing on genealogy and local history relevant to Minnesota’s Iron Range.
Minnesota People Records Search – Search the records of the Minnesota Historical Society.
New England
New England Historic Genealogical Society – Resource for finding genealogical information on Finns in New England.
