Nordic Film Series wraps season with Norwegian movie

A Norwegian movie based on a famous novel concludes the 2015-16 season for the Nordic Film Series at Finlandia University€™s Finnish American Heritage Center (FAHC).

€œVictoria€ will show at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 14 in the Martha Wiljanen Community Hall of the FAHC.

This 2013 film is a dramatization of Knut Hamsun€™s 1898 novel of the same name, tells the story of the tragic and unhappy love affair between Victoria and Johannes. She€™s a daughter of a rich estate owner, and he is the son of the poor miller. Despite the deep love between them, her father makes Victoria ditch Johannes, and instead marry the chamber man€™s son Otto. The film follows them for years, where we see Johannes making every possible attempt to impress her, and to climb in social rank.

The Nordic Film Series selected a Norwegian film for this showing, as it is the show date nearest to Norway€™s Constitution Day, which is observed in May.

€œVictoria€ is 1 hour and 45 minutes long, and is in Norwegian with English subtitles. The showings are open to the public; donations are appreciated. For more information, call (906) 487-7347.
